Watercolor based on a historical pigment obtained from the roots of Rubia Tinctorum according to a traditional recipe.
The use of Madder or Garance in dyeing has its roots in ancient times. The Egyptian and Greco-Roman civilizations had already refined a difficult extration process of the red coloring principle contained in the plant: the alizarin. Since Madder is the most stable of all vegetable lakes, it was often used in the art of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance until the nineteenth century with the advent of synthetically produced alizarin.
